Influence of the Several Factors on the Rooting of Sedum rotundifolium Stem and Leaf Cuttings

Abstract
The effects of various factors, such as rooting media, cutting part, rooting promoters, drying period etc., on rooting in stem and leaf cuttings of Sedum rotundifolium were investigated. In stem cuttings, rooting was begun about 20 days after cutting and completed after 40 days. The mixed medium with 70% of vermiculite and 30% perlite (by v/v) was the most effective in rooting, followed by sand and only vermiculite medium The worst result of 52.2% rooting was obtained in only peat moss medium. Leaf cutting could be possible in Sedum rotundifolium. In leaf cuttings, the highest rooting % of 66.6 was obtained at sand, but only 20% of cuttings were rooted at mixed soil with 70% vermiculite and 30% peat. In stem cuttings, cuttings of lower part showed better result compared with cuttings of upper part. But no significant effects of rooting promoter treatments were observed. In leaf cuttings, rooting promoter effect was also not found. But rooting % was greatly different by drying periods of cuttings. The best result was obtained when cuttings were dried 1 or 2 days at shaded place after cutting, although no statistical significance was observed.
